How Would You Repair That?

This chess piece came from a beautiful wooden set that come to our repair cafe.

As you can see, one of the wooden balls had snapped off. How would you tackle that?

Just glue it? It’s hard to hold together while the glue dries, and there’s not much contact area for the glue.

We used a tiny drill bit and steady hands to create a hole right down the pointy bit of wood – you can see this in the picture. Another hole in the ball, a metal pin through both pieces to hold it all together, along with some glue and Voila! – a nice strong repair to complete the chess set.
